The Memorial to the Heroes of the Great Patriotic War was opened on November 5, 1987 on the territory of the Omsk Flight Technical College of Civil Aviation of A.V. Lyapidevsky. It is a statue of the man staring in the sky. Next to it there are stone slabs, where the names of the graduates of the college awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union written on the bronze tablets. There are 27 names of about two and half thousand students gone on front. The authors of memorial are sculptor M. Shamardin and artist E.Gagishvili.
Not far from the sculptural composition, in 1984 the bust to Hero of the Soviet Union Anatoliy Lyapidevsky was installed in front of the entrance of the college named after him. A man in the flight form with courageous strong-willed face is depicted on the brown granite pedestal. An Air Force Major General made mark on history primarily by Chelyuskin rescue mission. The group of A. Lyapidevsky committed about 30 flights in harsh weather conditions in search for chelyuskintsy. It was A. Lyapidevsky who found camp of the expedition, landed the plane on the ice floe and transported 12 people from there. Then the other aviators transported the rest of the people. A.V. Lyapidevsky received the title of hero of the Soviet Union and later he was awarded many times. He worked in military air forces and his activity was in secret for a long time.
