Heavy trials fell to the city during the Great Patriotic War. For the heroism and courage shown by the miners, 30 of them were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. During the occupation in the city, about 14 thousand people were killed, 3,500 of which were dropped into the pit of the Krasin mine.
In 1959, an obelisk and a monument were erected at the Krasin mine (author F.S. Komarov), and in 1975 a majestic memorial was erected. In the center there is a sculptural group: two obelisks symbolize the waste pit of the mine, between them is the 8-meter figure of the miner, in whose hands the cup with the Eternal Flame.
To the left of the sculptural group is a burial wall, in which niches there are the miner's helmets. Near you can see the tombstone of memory to the victims of fascism. The memorial was made according to the sketches of the Rostov architect R.A. Murodyan and the sculptor I.I. Reznichenko.
