Novosibirsk State Art Museum was opened on December 27, 1958. The part of a building, which was built in 1926, is an architectural monument of National importance.
The museum has several permanent exhibitions: «Icons», «Russian art in 18-19 centuries», «Russian art at the beginning of the 20th century», «The art of Soviet period», «Russian art at the end of the 20th century», «Foreign art».
The basic of the museum`s collection is the objects that were transferred at the end of 1950`s and the beginning of 1960`s by the Tretyakov Gallery, Russian State Museum Pavlovsk Palace Museum, State Museum of Fine Arts named after Alexander Pushkin, State Hermitage Museum and other Russian museums.
Most of the collection is selection of Russian Art where there are art works by D. Lebitsky, V. Tropinin, I. Pryanishnikov, I. Repin, V. Surikov, A. Golovin, Z. Serebryakova, N. Mashkov, R. Falk, P. Konchalovsky, K. Yuon. The museum`s fund has a unique collection of art works by N. Roerich. Especially impressive are the majestic sceneries of the Himalayas. The section of Foreign Art has molds from antique sculpture, graphic works and painting of European artists of 16-20 centuries.
In the museum there are regular excursions, lectures, competitions. The museum conduct active research work, there are conferences, seminars and roundtables. The museum has children`s art studio.
