Описание

Omsk State Museum of History and Regional Studies is the oldest museum of Siberia. It was founded in 1878 within the West-Siberian Branch of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society (IRGS). The first collections were acquired mainly through the materials collected by expeditions of the members of the West-Siberian Branch of IRGS and through the voluntary donations. In 1921 the museum of West-Siberian Branch of IRGS was transformed into an independent state institution and was renamed in the West-Siberian State Krayevoi (Regional) Museum. From 1923 to 1934 it was called West-Siberian Regional Museum. With the formation of Omsk oblast in 1934, the museum came to be called the Omsk Oblast Museum of Regional Studies. From 1980 to 1992 — the State Joint Museum of History and Literature. From 1992 and onwards — Omsk State Museum of History and Regional Studies.

At the moment Omsk State Museum of History and Regional Studies is the largest one in Siberia. Currently its collection comprises over 200,000 items. There are collections of archaeology, ethnography and visual and written sources (archival documents on the history of the region), photographs, old printed and rare books, fine art objects, weapons, numismatic materials and natural history dioramas. The museum collections are growing by 2,500 — 3,000 items a year. There is a permanent exhibition and six exhibition halls. Ethnographic, archaeological and natural exhibits presenting the Omsk Irtysh Area are on display. Each year more than 190,000 people visit the museum. There are theatrical excursions, lessons, holidays for different categories of visitors.

The museum's main goal was and still is the preservation of historical and cultural heritage of the region. This is reflected both in the exhibitions and in scientific and educational work. Lectures on local lore are given regularly in the museum. A collection of scientific works News of the Omsk State Museum of History and Regional Studies and a factual almanac Omsk Local History Specialist are published regularly.

On the second floor there is a souvenir shop where you can purchase periodicals of regional science and museum souvenirs.
