The monument to two famous military composers whose names are linked with Tambov — Ilya Shatrov, the Russian military musician, bandmaster, author of “On the Hills of Manchuria” waltz, and Vasily Agapkin, the Soviet conductor, the author of the legendary “The Slavic Woman’s Farewell“ march, is installed in Internatsionalnaya Street between Pushkin library and the Wedding Palace. The location was intentional — they used to live not far from the modern town center.
The monument is a composition of 2 m high figures of Shatrov and Agapkin standing by the sides of a 5 m granite music paper page. The total height of the monument is 5,5 meters and the weight — about 7 tons.
