The building of the Government of the Novosibirsk Region is one of the most impressive buildings of the city. Previously, it was the House of Soviets. The building was constructed in the style of constructivism in 1933. The project engineers were B.A. Gordeev, S.P. Turgenev with the cooperation of A.D. Kryachkov. The future engineer of the Ostankino TV tower N.V. Nikitin took part in the projecting as well.
This building is included in the list of the 800 best avant-garde buildings in the world; the real architectural masterpiece is the bay window — a semicircular, outstanding part of the building. In addition, this is one of the few significant buildings in the city, which has remained almost untouched.
During the construction it was involved 470 people who worked around the clock. The ground was taken out on two horses and 70 trolleys. At the same time, the modern building materials were used: reinforced concrete, glass, metal.
The building was supposed to accommodate 2,000 workers of 15 departments of the regional executive committee. The right side of the building was arranged for apartments of employees with the separate staircase. Moreover, for the first time in the city the building was equipped with elevators.
Above the entrance of the building there is a balcony, which is not used now.
